London Skid Pan
I’ve just come across a Pathe Film entitled “The Traffic Moves – 1933” (see the link below). It features Berlin’s trams, buses and S-bahn trains taking up their daily duties (claiming to be in 1933). However, my attention was drawn to the scene showing their imposing six-wheel double-deckers on a “skid pan”.When did London start using…

Leyland Coach
A friend of mine spotted a half cab Leyland coach at Low Farm, Alvely, near Stourport Reg: HCJ 275. Does any contributor have any idea of its origins, owners, etc.? Allan Machon 25/08/11 – 07:11 Allan, HCJ was a Herefordshire registration mark, first issued in April 1950, so the coach is relatively ‘local’ in origin.…

Portsmouth Corp’n 1936/37 Leyland TD4/Cravens 131-160 RV 9385 – RV 9414
In 1936-1937, Portsmouth Corporation took delivery of 30 buses of the above type, which had all, bar one (a bomb casualty), been whittled away between 1955 and 1960. I moved to Portsmouth in 1956, but spent much of this period in the RAF/London and so don’t ever recall seeing one of this type. I’m wondering…

Coach to Newquay
In 1970 I went to Newquay for a holiday and travelled by coach from Bolton. I can’t remember much about the trip now but wondered if anybody would know if the journey I took would be a regular route or a summer time arrangement only? I remember leaving on a Friday evening and seem to…

Which Coach Station?
I was wondering if you chaps might recognise where this 1950’s/60’s photo was taken because of the rather distinctive Coach Station? I am grateful for any info. Colin Robinson 21/10/12 – 10:38 I wish I had an answer but I have been looking through many pages of Art Deco designs, illustrations and pictures but found…

Coding Rear Entrance Single Deckers
It seems to be normal practice to describe rear-entrance single deckers as B35R etc. whether or not they had a door (and there were a few in the Edinburgh and Sheffield fleets and no doubt others which did not). I’ve never seen the description B35RD. I suppose it was because the open-platform arrangement was more…

Doncaster Independent
I recently came across one of my mums old photos, it is of her dad Rowland Burge and the bus he was the driver of. She seems to think that the photo was taken in 1936. She can not remember the company he drove for but she knows it was an independent which had its…
